The Splinter Cell movie starring Tom Hardy has been cancelled due to script and budget problems

A film based on the Splinter Cell IP and with Tom Hardy as the MC appears to have been cancelled once and for all, if we are to believe a recent statement by its producer.

Announced back in 2012, the project was then shelved for over ten years, and now we know why. Basil Iwanyk, a producerthat joined the film's team in 2013, has said that it will never see the light of day.

Here's what he has said:

"That movie would have been awesome... Just couldn't get it right, script-wise, budget-wise. But it was going to be great. We had a million different versions of it, but it was going to be hardcore and awesome. That's one of the ones that got away, which is really sad."

Meanwhile, an animated series called Splinter Cell: Deathwatch is still in the works at Netflix. However, we know next to nothing about it for now, other than it's supposed to come out soon.
