GPD says AMD's Zen 5 Strix Point APUs cost twice as much as Zen 4 Hawk Point APUs
, by Quentin
AMD's Strix Point APUs seem to come with a hefty price tag, and some manufacturers, like GPD, are making some strategic decisions in the face of this situation.
Indeed, while their new laptop comes with a Ryzen AI 9 HX 370 Strix Point, the company is also offering a cheaper option with a Ryzen 7 8840U Hawk Point. Why? Because of cutting corners, of course.
AMD reportedly sells the Strix Point APUs to companies like GPD at twice the price of the Ryzen 7 8840U, and GPD needs to think about how to maintain a sufficient margin while remaining competitive for consumers.
This raises concerns for the future, pointing to a possible price hike for the next generation, particularly with the arrival of the Strix Halo.
