Modified RTX 4080 SUPER and 4090D are making the rounds in China
, by Quentin
For several months now, China has been subject to the whims of U.S. sanctions, which have led to a ban on the RTX 4090 as we know it there. In response, NVIDIA decided to create a new graphics card just for the Chinese market, compliant with the US government requirements: the RTX 4090D.
That said, there are a few modified models of RTX 4080 SUPER and RTX 4090D making the rounds in China now, with double the VRAM memory. The RTX 4080 SUPER comes with 32 GB GDDR6X, and the RTX 4090D now features 48 GB GDDR6X.
It would appear that someone has desoldered the original memory chips and replaced them with double the capacity. and the PCB may also have been replaced.
