More details about DOOM: The Dark Ages
, by Thibaut
At QuakeCon 2024, id Software unveiled brand-new footage from DOOM: The Dark Ages. Keep in mind that these weren't shown to the public, as it was visitors only.
According to some initial feedback from those who were there, the extracts were taken from the alpha version of the game and included sequences seen in the announcement trailer. The areas there were far bigger than those of the previous enties. Players will have access to three melee weapons, and the shield saw will be used for traversal. It can also be thrown at enemies.
Unlike DOOM Eternal, verticality won't play a big role here. The glory kill system has been redesigned, and it will revolve on hand-to-hand combat. There were several weapons, such as a single-barrel shotgun and a double-barrel plasma rifle.
The dragon and mech seen in the trailer will be playable on several occasions during the campaing. It's called Altan, and ti will have its own interface, will lose pieces of armor when taking damage and will have its own glory kills.
Finally, there are new enemies, and environmental storytelling will play a bigger role.
