Borderlands is a true flop at the box office
, by Thibaut
The Borderlands film not only got criticized and pulled apart by the specialized press, but it's got off to a terrible start in theaters.
In its first weekend in the U.S., Borderlands earned just $8.8 million at 3,125 U.S. theaters. Speaking of the rest of the world, the total was just $7.7 million. All in all, the film took in just $16.5 million versus a budget of around $145 million.
That said, 60% of production costs have already been amortized thanks to international pre-sales. Still, all in all it's a very disappointing result.
