The trailers that made gamers go crazy
, by Quentin
There's something that never fails to stand out when you're a video game enthusiast: that moment when a trailer for a title that you've been chomping at the bits for gets shown. It would be impossible to draw up an exhaustive list here, given the long history of this media, and the many titles that deserve their place here. However, we wanted to make our own little selection, and here it is.
Devi May Cry 4
I feel many of you discovered the IP through the fourth game, Devil May Cry 4. It's first trailer was as striking as the game itself, with the reveal of a great art direction, impressive graphics for the time and a exciting metal soundrack that shows what the game is all about with just one song.
Devil May Cry is all about frenzied combat, with insane combos and sequences, and all of this was perfectly summarizen in the reveal video. It was all there to show that the franchise wasn't dead - in fact, it was stronger than ever.
Zelda Twilight Princess
This is one of the Zelda announcements that most impressed us here at Instant Gaming News. It was E3 2004, and gamers were about to see Twilight Princess for the first time. Reactions were swift and the crowd roared as they saw Link.
This reveal is everything. It's the pleasure, as always, of seeing a brand-new Zelda game, but it's also the joy of seeing hundreds of gamers go crazy with a reveal.
The Last of Us Part II
After hitting hard, like, real hard, with the first The Last of Us, Naughty Dog went all in with a second entry. It was announced with a 4-minute video that took its time to present the distinct atmosphere of the game. Just this trailer shows that, despite it being an AAA title, it's still very much an auteur game.
The music also played a great part on this, with Ellie playing guitar and singing, immersing us in a world where there seems to be no hope left. In short, it's a recipe for which only Naughty Dog has the secret.
Beyond Good & Evil II
Let's take a leap back to 2008, when Beyond Good & Evil II was first revealed, a time when we had no idea that the game would become the videogame world's biggest miss, nor that it would undergo such changes. And yes, back then, Episode II wasn't supposed to be a prequel, but a sequel to the first game. Of course, plans have changed over the years.
It was a very simple trailer, just setting the world and the atmosphere and bringing back our two heroes, Pey'j and Jade, this time in the middle of the desert. What's more, the fact that the video was labelled “1 - The Pig” foreshadowed further videos like this, which sadly we never got to see.

inFAMOUS 2
The trailer for inFAMOUS 2 opens with a cover of The Animals' famous song “The House of the Rising Sun”, in a frozen setting where time has stood still. It hit all the right notes when it comes to being in an apocalyptic, dystopian world, and we were already dying to see more of Cole's return from second 1.
It's a no-frills trailer that doesn't try to do too much, but that's still works and hit hard.
Final Fantasy VII Remake
It's impossible not to cheer and kick and scream in a split second when you discover that Square Enix is working on the remake of one of the most beloved Final Fantasy ever. This was the case at E3 20215, where they announced Final Fantasy VII Remake.
Seeing the famous locations we discovered on PS1 better than ever, as well as meeting again those engaging characters, just chills. We hove to relive those moments yet again when they announce the third and final entry of the remake.
Gran Turismo 5
Racing games also play a big part in the video game landscape, and one of the biggest of them all is PlayStation's Gran Turismo. Fans were just over cloud nine when the company revealed the fifth game at E3 2010, with more cars than ever and incredible graphics for the time.
It just took two minutes to confirm its place as leader of the genre and reminds of the world of its position.
Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain
If there's one master of announcement trailers, it's Hideo Kojima, and we know there had to be one game of his here. We have chosen to Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain to pay tribute to the man.
Everything about it is great: from the music, the art direction, the shot and the way the story is told. Kojima has the ability to make his fans go crazy at the mere sight of Snake, but also to get quite some screen time, - in this case, five minutes - and draw us into his universe.
Grand Theft Auto VI
If there's an announcement that has made some waves recently, it's Grand Theft Auto VI, which has already reached 200 million views. It has to be said, Rockstar Games kept us waiting for a new GTA, given that the last one released back in 2013.
The wait has been worth it with a video that sets the scene and demonstrates that the main traits of the franchise are all still there, with its excesses and its criticism of the United States. It gives us the strength to wait until 2025.
The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim
After Bethesda sought an incredible success with The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion, they delivered something even greater. This was The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim, the license's biggest success yet.
But we didn't know that from the first trailer. This one is a fair modest affair, with still shots and a narrator telling us a story, ending then with a gigantic dragon and the game's OST.
Assassin's Creed Unity
There's just one thing you have to give to Ubisoft, and that's their ability to create great announcements and magnificent trailers. We just had to include one of them. After some careful consideration, we decided to go with Assassin's Creed, but not just any Assassin's Creed.
One of the most unfairly treated, in fact, especially after a chaotic release due to its lack of polish and the many bugs that could affect our games. Beyond that, it's a great story, and in particular a great soundtrack as usual.
Which trailer impressed you the most, and why? Tell us in the comments!
