ASUS' new handheld console, the ROG Ally X, is finally available. After a first version released in June of last year, it's finally time for a follow-up. This new model brings a whole host of improvements over the previous one, with better performance and some new features.
It's got improved ergonomics, mainly a more comfortable grip and more efficient cooling. The fans are 23% smaller, but capable of a better airflow thanks to a new exhaust on the top edge of the handheld. It also features a new black chassis with a rounder shape and the buttons and joysticks have been regorganized.
We also note the addition of a USB-C Thunderbolt 4 compatible with third-party docks and even external GPUs, as well as improved RAM with 24 GB of LPDDR5 compared to the 16 GB of the previous one. Clock speed has been increased from 6,400 MHz to 7,500 MHz. Its APU remains the same, with the excellent AMD Ryzen Z1 Extreme.
There is more: the motherboard has been redesigned to accomodate a larger SSD in 2280 format. This time, the console comes with a 1 TB NVMe SSD: The biggest improvement here concerns the battery, with an 800 Wh that doubles the playtime of the previous model. It's already available for $799.99.
