Coop games are on the rise on Steam

A recent report by VG Insights shows the growth of cooperative games as of late. Keep in mind that it focuses on Steam, though.

799 coop titles saw the light of day on Valve's storefront in 2023. This figure is rising steadily, since it was 701 in 2022, 650 in 2021 and 647 in 2020.

Last year, 36% of the games sold on Steam had a coop dimension. The same could be said in 2024: in fact, 46% of Steam titles sold can be played with friends. This is largely thanks to Helldivers 2 and Palworld, which accounted for 75% of co-op games sold this year.

Finally, the report estimates that co-op games sold an average of 40,000 copies on the whole, compared with around 5,000 for non-co-op titles. All in all, just 106 co-op titles sold more than 5 million copies on Valve's platform.
