Steam has changed a specific point in its refund policy for games on advanced access
, by Thibaut
Valve has just updated its refund policy. This concerns games on advanced access, a practice that's becoming the norm and that involves buying the Deluxe Edition of a title to gain access to it a few days before those who buy the standard one.
The game time acquired during this preview period is now taken into account in the refund period provided by Steam. Generally speaking, a game can only be refunded within 14 days of purchase, and must not have been played for more than two hours.
In the past, a player could sometimes play for more than two hours during advanced access and still claim a refund once the game was officially released. This is no longer the case.
However, nothing has changed for pre-orders that do not allow early access to the game. The 14-day refund period will apply from the official release date.
