In Europe, some publishers are wondering whether it's still worthwhile to release their games on Xbox

It looks like the beginning of a fall of for Xbox in the European market. GamesIndustry.biz's Chris Dring says he heard some disheartening statements about Microsoft during GDC 2024.

Without giving any names, Dring says that one major publisher and a smaller one are casting doubt on releasing their games on Xbox machines and put the blame on console sales "collapsing" for the American manufacturer in Europe.

"This comes from a major company that released a great game last year: I don't know why we bothered supporting them (Xbox consoles)."

It's worth noting that on European soil, some retailers have chosen to limit or even stop selling Xbox games altogether, given the low demand. This sentiment is echoed by a number of publishers, who say that they put "a lot of effort into creating a Series S and an X version of a game when, to be honest, for us, our market is the PC and the PS5."
