During GDC, Ubisoft presented its AI-based ultra-realistic NPC system

As we all know, artificial intelligence will play an increasingly important role in game design, and Ubisoft intends to play a leading role in this field. The French company has created some extremely realistic NPCs with this.
In fact, an R&D team at Ubisoft Paris has developed a generative AI capable of making conversations with game characters more natural. Named "NEO NPC", this project was designed in partnership with Nvidia's Audio2Face app and Inworld's Large Language Model (LLM).
Ubisoft promises "real conversations, driven by spontaneous actions and reactions" from NPCs. The publisher even showed several demos during a private meeting at GDC 2024.
A NPC named Bloom, for example, reacted according to the player's tone of voice. By asking the right questions, it was possible to learn more about the character and trigger scripted responses. During an infiltration mission, Bloom could also answer the player's questions while reacting to the environment in which he found himself.
Another NPC named Iron was able to give feedback to the player on his proposed approach during mission planning. With this process, Ubisoft claims to want to "improve narrative immersion" in its games.
