Valve presents Steam Families
, by Thibaut
In the near future, Valve will be replacing the current familly sharing and mode available on its platform with a single, large feature called Steam Families.
It's now available throught the Steam Beta program, and up to six family members per household can be part of a Steam Family. Here's what it all entails.
-
Family share gives access to the family library with all the games owned by each member. Of course, each member can create their own savegames.
-
Parental control allows you to authorize access to certain games, restrict the Steam store, limit game time, access game time reports and validate or deny request from children who want to play longer.
-
Children's purchase request: a child must send a request to an adult to make a purchase. You can validate it from a mobile device or an e-mail address.
-
You can leave a "family" at any time, but must wait one year to create or join a new one. Only adults or Steam support can remove a child from a family, and the vacated place can only be used again after one year.
