While AI is a term that is often vilified, many professionals in the video game industry seem to be opting for this technique when designing their projects.
In a report published very recently, Unity, the company responsible for the famous game engine, revealed that 62% of studios use artificial intelligence at least at some point in the game creation process.
According to the same article, 71% of companies surveyed said that using AI had allowed them to reduce the time needed to release a game. The average time to launch a title was 218 days in 2022. This has now risen to 304 days.
AI would be used mainly to improve character animations and code more quickly. The tools would also be used to generate artwork and levels, and to test the game without the need for QA testers.
Finally, artificial intelligence would even be used to reduce the time spent creating a prototype at the very start of production.
