Former PlayStation executive advises Sony to release more PC exclusives
, by Thibaut
As we all know, it's becoming increasingly difficult for devs to make their big-budget exclusives profitable. This is one of the reasons why Xbox has announced the launch of several of their games on competing machines.
PlayStation, meanwhile, is increasingly open to the idea of launching their games on PC. In fact, Shawn Layden, former CEO of Sony Interactive Entertainment America, is encouraging his former company to continue its efforts in this area.
"When your costs for a game exceed $200 million, exclusivity is your Achilles’ heel. It reduces your addressable market. Particularly when you’re in the world of live service gaming or free-to-play. Another platform is just another way of opening the funnel, getting more people in [...] You have to improve your odds by cracking the funnel open. Helldivers 2 has shown that for PlayStation, coming out on PC at the same time. Again, you get that funnel wider. You get more people in".
