PlayStation Portal success exceeds Sony's expectations

Since its launch last November, PlayStation Portal seems to have proved relatively popular with gamers. In an interview with Game File, Hiromi Wakai, who manages product planning at Sony Interactive Entertainment, shared his thoughts on the device's reception.

"Although we don't have any numbers to share, the demand has continued to exceed our expectations" for the PlayStation Portal. Production of the device is proceeding "without a hitch" and more units will be continuously distributed around the world.

Wakai adds that the aim of the Portal was to "provide gamers with high-quality console gaming experiences", all without requiring additional work from developers. Finally, the Sony representative mentions the fact that the device was primarily designed for "people with specific needs who want to play in a specific way."
