With the first film, Gearbox aims to create a Borderlands Cinematic Universe

Gearbox is firing on all cylinders with the Borderlands films. Randy Pitchford, the company's CEO, recently spoke of the film's place in the franchise's universe.
We learn that this first big-screen installment will mark the beginning of a "Borderlands Cinematic Universe" that will live "side by side" with that of the franchise's video games. The film will not follow the plot of the first, second or even third game. It will be a totally independent scenario.
