In an article published on its blog, the Subnautica development team clarified certain aspects of the second game that had been communicated by Krafton.
First of all, as far as the "GAAS" dimension is concerned, it will simply be a matter of offering new content over several years. There will be no season pass, battle pass or even subscription required.
Secondly, coop will be optional, and the game as a whole will not rely on multiplayer. Everything will remain playable solo.
Finally, early access will not begin in 2024.

It's a turning point we didn't necessarily see coming for the next Subnautica. In fact, in its latest financial announcement, publisher Krafton has provided information about this new game.
Soberly called Subnautica 2, the Unknown Worlds title will use Unreal Engine 5 and plunge us into a race for survival in the middle of the ocean. Unlike the two previous games, which can only be played solo, this one will feature coop for up to four players.
Krafton also plans to include a "game-as-a-service" model to provide "enhanced replayability". Subnautica 2 is scheduled for release in 2025.
