Initially, Life is Strange was to have no sequels at all

The existence of the Life is Strange saga could have been cut short. In an interview with GamesRadar, Michel Koch, the franchise's director, stated so.

At first, the first entry wasn't going to get a sequel. Square Enix wanted to make it a one night stand. The publisher obviously reversed its decision after seeing the game's success.

Koch also added that his teams "never wrote the story and characters while having in mind anything that could happen to them after the end of the game".
