Steam will now disclose which games use AI-generated content
, by Quentin
Steam pages will now reveal which games use AI-generated content. This follows Valve's new guidelines for developers wishing to publish games on Steam, forcing developers to specify whether or not they use AI.
Valve classifies this into two distinct categories:
Pre-generated: Any type of content (art, code, sound, etc.) created using AI tools during the development phase. As part of the Steam distribution agreement, developers commit to ensuring that their game contains no illegal or counterfeit content, and that it conforms to their marketing materials. During the initial evaluation, Valve will examine AI-generated content in the game in the same way as any other non-IA content, including whether the game complies with these commitments.
Live-generated: Any type of content created using AI tools while the game is running. In addition to the rules applicable to pre-generated AI content, an additional requirement is added: when assessing content, developers must indicate the safety measures put in place to ensure that AI does not generate illegal content.
