Tencent has reportedly chosen to abandon its virtual reality-related projects

The Chinese gaming giant wanted to diversify its activities by entering the VR market. To do so, Tencent had hired around 300 people for its XR unit. Unfortunately, Reuters reports that the company recently gave up on its VR device project. According to internal forecasts, such a device would only have been profitable from 2027. With the economic prospects being discouraging, the firm has decided to reduce its expenses and workforce in the virtual reality field.
