Sony patents a system that automatically adjusts game difficulty
, by Thibaut
As we all know, console manufacturers like to file patents for various systems. Not all of them come to fruition, but some are worth a look.
Sony recently filed a patent with the simple name of "adaptive difficulty calibration for skill-based activities in virtual environments"*.
As the name suggests, this patent would introduce a feature that would allow the difficulty of a game to be adapted to the player's abilities. There would be no need to go through a menu, as the title would set its own difficulty via complex algorithms. This would enable a game to be neither too hard nor too easy.
