A SEGA executive wants Sonic to "surpass Mario"

What if SEGA were trying to rekindle the little war between Mario and Sonic? That's what this statement by Osamu Ohasi, head of the publisher's 2nd Business Department, seems to suggest. The 2nd Business Department is a division that deals with everything to do with the famous blue hedgehog.
In an interview, Ohasi simply stated that he wants to see Sonic surpass Mario.
"Sonic was originally developed to compete with Mario, and we have yet to achieve that. Because we respect Mario, my goal is to catch up and surpass him."
He also mentions that he wants to do better than Mario in the cinema, and is planning a Sonic attraction at Universal Studios Japan.
