Assassin's Creed Codename Red marks a turning point in the franchise's "modern" storyline

Since its inception in 2007, Ubisoft's franchise has been told through events set both in the past and in the present day. The latter has been rather sidelined of late, but it's set to make a comeback soon.

According to Insider Gaming, the saga's next entry, Codename Red, will see its "modern" story set in the last decade of the 21th century (2090-2099). We can therefore expect a new cast of characters for this period.
