UK gives a provisional unfavorable opinion on Microsoft's acquisition of Activision Blizzard as well
, by Thibaut
And if the acquisition of Activision Blizzard by Microsoft falls through? That's the tune that's starting to be heard following the rather unfavorable provisional opinion rendered by the CMA (the UK competition authority). The whole problem seems to revolve around Call of Duty. Indeed, the CMA explains that the merger could harm competition by making Call of Duty exclusive or simply better on Xbox. The independent authority is therefore requesting significant concessions from the American manufacturer.
It is encouraged to give up the rights to Call of Duty or even to split the entity in two to only acquire the Blizzard part. Activision would then remain independent. Microsoft could also choose to keep only King to strengthen its presence in the mobile gaming market. The final decision will be made on April 26.
