PS5 approaches 98 million consoles sold

Just like Nintendo, Sony has also reported its financial results this week. The quarter that ended on September 30, 2026, was quite the eventful one for PlayStation. Notably, the company announced it would discontinue production of physical discs in January 2028 and faced a series of controversies.

Regardless, the PS5 is doing well, with shipments now standing at 97.9 million units worldwide. During these three months, 2.6 million consoles were sold (which is 900,000 fewer than during the same period in 2025).

In addition, the PlayStation Network attracted 127 million monthly users, an increase of 8 million year-over-year. A total of 88.2 million PS4 and PS5 games were sold this quarter (+7.9 million), including 8.2 million developed by PlayStation. Marvel’s Wolverine, for example, sold 2.4 million copies.

Finally, 78% of games sold were in digital format. This represents a 6% increase compared to the previous fiscal year.
