IGN China criticizes Western games in its review of Phantom Blade Zero

The Chinese studio S-GAME appears to have delivered one of the best games of 2026 with Phantom Blade Zero. The action-RPG has earned a Metacritic score of 88% and currently ranks first in Steam sales.

Naturally, China is very proud of this success and has made sure to let everyone know. The IGN China website awarded Phantom Blade Zero a perfect score of 10/10. Beyond this apparent perfection, the reviewer launched a scathing attack on Western games, which he considers "industrial garbage." In his argument, he added that the West is in "a creative rut" and that Chinese games “will teach them a lesson”.

"In the foreseeable future, when Western game creators are stuck in a creative rut, held hostage by political correctness, and bound by highly industrialized commercial logic, producing one mass-produced, industrial garbage game after another , then let Chinese game creators teach them a lesson and make them relearn what a high-quality, content-rich AAA game should look like."

Phantom Blade Zero launches on PS5 and PC this Thursday, October 29, 2026.
