Switch 2: titles already released on game key cards cannot be re-released on traditional game cards
, by Thibaut
This is a new Nintendo policy that is likely to cause quite a stir. Yes, the retailer Video Games Plus (VGP) made this discovery while attempting to re-release Switch 2 titles—already available on game key cards—on traditional game cards.
The site clarified that this is currently impossible due to a policy enforced by the Japanese company. It’s worth noting that game key cards contain only a license for the title in question, which must be downloaded in its entirety.
« As far as game key cards are concerned, all publishers are fully aware of VGP’s position. Unfortunately, we do not anticipate any significant changes from most major publishers. As we have often stated, we actively seek to have existing game key card titles re-released as full versions on cartridges, but for now, Nintendo’s policy prevents us from doing so. That said, we will persevere, continue to ask questions, and follow up with them. »
It is important to note that Nintendo has not openly confirmed the existence of such a policy. VGP has deleted its post on X.
