PlayStation and AMD seem to be working more closely than ever on the design of the PS6. The console has not yet been officially unveiled, but numerous rumors are circulating about it. For example, we know it will feature a handheld design.
In the latest episode of Digital Foundry Direct, the team behind the website, which provides technical analyses of current video games and hardware, revealed that Sony’s portable will the only one to feature the RDNA 5 architecture.
"There has been some behind the scene discussions that Sony has an exclusive of sorts on RDNA5 for handheld with it's mobile device that's coming."
Thus, the PS6 could be the only handheld console on the market to feature a dedicated custom chip. Other devices from Xbox or even Valve are expected to be left out. Finally, AMD reportedly no longer wishes to invest resources in manufacturing chips for niche devices. The manufacturer is said to be focusing solely on customers committed to large volumes.
