Sony appears to be enforcing a previously unknown restriction on physical games. This limitation was discovered by several users on forums and social media.
Some users have reported that they can no longer launch physical games without installing the latest system update on their PS5. This issue has been reported with The Witcher 3 and Ghost of Yotei. A message appears notifying the user that they must update the system to launch the disc.
At this time, we do not know the extent of the issue or whether it applies to all games or only to very specific cases. In any case, this is not very reassuring for the long-term viability of titles that may depend on available system updates.
