The Switch 2 has been partially jailbroken

This is definitely a very rough patch for home consoles. After the PS5, it’s now the Switch 2’s turn to be jailbroken. A security researcher named Sammy Hajhamid shared a video of this exploit performed on the current firmware version 23.0.1.

To illustrate his point, he also shared a clip from Mario Kart World characters such as Peter Griffin, Hatsune Miku, and Cinnamoroll included. Hajhamid explained that he exploited vulnerabilities in the SmileBASIC programming software. This software was designed for the original Switch and allows developers to run their own code to modify games. OpenAI Codex was also used to identify the vulnerabilities mentioned above.

However, this jailbreak is only partial. For now, it requires a connected computer and must be reactivated every time the Switch 2 is restarted. The console’s OS still has some secrets left. The source code has been published on GitHub. We'll see just how Nintendo will respond to this announcement.
