Street Fighter: the new movie has received a mixed welcome

The movie Street Fighter has finally hit theaters. Directed by Kitao Sakurai and starring Callina Liang, Roman Reigns, Jason Momoa, and Noah Centineo, this adaptation had the potential to thrill fans of the fighting game franchise.

While we’ll have to wait a few days for the first box office results, the reviews are already in. On Rotten Tomatoes, Street Fighter has earned an average score of 45% from critics. Audience members, meanwhile, have given it a rating of 83%. On Metacritic, the score currently stands at 45%.

Some critics appreciated that the film doesn’t take itself too seriously, with action sequences that are at times wacky and over-the-top. The fights are explosive, and the characters are relatively well-portrayed on the big screen. Other media outlets found the film « ridiculous », with a disjointed plot and an overall rather chaotic presentation.
