SEGA opens a Discord server for Sonic... and it quickly became a disaster
, by Thibaut
The Japanese publisher wanted Sonic fans to have a place to gather on Discord to freely discuss the famous blue hedgehog. This commendable initiative quickly descended into chaos when users began posting prohibited messages and content.
Content of a questionable, sexual, or even outright racist nature began appearing within minutes of the Discord server opening. Moderators therefore locked several channels, banned users, and implemented other restrictions to stem the tide. We will, of course, refrain from discussing the content of these posts.
It’s also worth noting that some users were banned for posting political messages. Eight of the nine chat channels are now disabled, and slow mode has been enabled to prevent members from spamming. Only those who pay to boost the Sonic server can post in all channels. The situation should therefore gradually stabilize.
