50 people laid off in Activision's esport division

Despite net revenues of $2.46 billion in the previous quarter (thanks Diablo IV), Activision Blizzard has made budget cuts in one of its divisions.

The Verge reports that 50 employees in the eSport division were let go this week by the American giant. One person affected by this wave of layoffs said he was "shocked". In addition, Activision has reportedly not offered any outplacement solutions to its dismissed employees.

Rumor has it that Activision Blizzard may end up closing its eSport department, as "they are completely unequipped to internally support anything esports after that."*
