World's Edge (Age of Empires) has lost half its staff

XBOX has made further changes within its studios this week. These changes notably saw Activision expand by bringing several franchises and studios under its umbrella, including Rare and Halo.

In addition, the publisher of Call of Duty has also acquired World's Edge, the company behind the Age of Empires franchise. This transfer will not come without consequences, as layoffs are expected. On ResetEra, a now-former employee of the company stated that about half the workforce was laid off. It was originally a small team consisting of 11 to 50 employees, according to its LinkedIn page.

For now, we don’t know what will become of the Age of Empires series under Activision’s leadership.
