Microsoft has filed a pantent to show ads during gaming sessions

Here's yet another topic that’s sure to spark a lot of debate! It seems Microsoft is looking for yet another way to make money off gamers. A patent filed in the United States on September 3, 2026, could very well detract from the gaming experience.

The American company has patented a system for displaying ads during gameplay. The feature will recognize "trigger events" to display an ad outside of critical moments in the game. The game will be paused to show the ad, much like in today’s free-to-play mobile games.

These ads could appear during loading screens, at the end of a multiplayer round or mission, or even when a quest in a single-player game is completed. A credit system will also be used to grant ad-free periods until the credits run out.

Of course, filing a patent does not necessarily mean that a system or feature will be rolled out on a large scale.
