The Chinese video game industry is worth approximately $52 billion

While the video game industry faces plenty of challenges and difficulties in the West, it's thriving in China. A new report from Niko Partners reveals a booming sector that now generates more revenue than some leading countries.
In 2025, the Chinese gaming industry generated approximately $51.8 billion in revenue. That is roughly five times more than the United Kingdom, which reached $8.76 billion that same year. In 2026, China could see a 4% increase, climbing to $53.9 billion. By 2030, estimates even suggest $59.8 billion. This year, the United States is expected to remain at the top of the rankings with $68.9 billion.
These excellent results are driven by the success of several games created in China, such as Genshin Impact and, more recently, Where Winds Meet. The latter already had more than 2 million players less than 24 hours after its launch.
Also in China, 46.5% of gamers participate in esports, and that total is projected to rise to more than 51% by 2026. This demonstrates the importance of gaming competitions in the country.
