The PS5 version of Halloween: The Game has been canceled in Japan

After being banned in Australia and New Zealand, Halloween: The Game has hit yet another roadblock in Japan. IllFonic has announced that its national rating from CERO has been revoked for the PlayStation version.

As a result, the game will only be released on Xbox Series X|S and PC in Japan. The PS5 version was blocked due to “the title's visceral violence and nudity." Refunds will be issued to users who pre-ordered the game on PlayStation.

"We have determined that regulating the content to achieve compliance would significantly compromise the worldview of the original film, and would also prevent us from providing the gameplay experience that players expect.

Refunds are scheduled to be processed by the platform for players who pre-ordered the PS5 version. Please direct any inquiries regarding those details to the platform. Digital versions of Halloween: The Game will still be available on Xbox Series X|S, Steam, and Epic Games Store and will be released in Japan on Wednesday, September 9, 2026."

Do keep in mind that this change applies only to Japan. Elsewhere in the world, Halloween: The Game is still scheduled for release on PS5, XBOX Series, and PC on September 8, 2026.
