XBOX paid more than the development costs of S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2: Heart of Chornobyl to make it a temporary exclusive

When it released back in November 2024, S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2: Heart of Chornobyl was available exclusively on XBOX Series and PC. What's more, the FPS was also included in Game Pass.

In a recent interview, Sergiy Grygorovych, the founder of GSC Game World, revealed a little secret about the deal surrounding this temporary Xbox exclusivity. Microsoft paid more than the game’s development costs to secure this contract. As a result, S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2 had already recouped its entire production costs before its release.

S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2: Heart of Chornobyl ended up coming to PS5 a year later, on November 20, 2025.
