Valve improves Wi-Fi downloads on SteamOS devices
, by Thibaut
The SteamOS 3.8.14 update came out out this weekend. In addition to the usual security and stability improvements, the system patch includes a major fix.
Specifically, it corrects an issue that limited Wi-Fi speeds on certain routers displaying incorrect MCS (Modulation Coding Scheme) requirements. This should result in faster Wi-Fi downloads.
Note that MCS refers to a system used by routers to communicate with devices equipped with a Wi-Fi antenna. This technology determines their speeds, signal strength, and various other characteristics.
