Blizzard shows Anran's new look on Overwatch after the controversy

Last February, Blizzard Entertainment launched a revamp of Overwatch by modifying certain aspects of the game and introducing new heroes. In this new roster, the character Anran sparked controversy due to her appearance.

Players criticized the heroine for being made to look too much younger compared to her first appearance. In a new video posted on social media this week, Aaron Keller, the game director of Overwatch, revealed the changes made to Anran’s design.

This new look will be introduced during Season 2, which begins on April 14, 2026.

"We think she could come across older and that her original version was too innocent and playful."

"Anran is confident, determined, fierce, and a natural-born leader, and we want her visuals in game to convey that personality. So we made some adjustments to her face. We focused on her eyes, eyebrows, and mouth, and we moved away from that baby face, look, and expression to something more sincere and more mature, and even something like a simple posture change can help Anran feel, well, more like Anran!” We’re really happy with the way these changes turned out, and also that she has a closer resemblance to her brother Wuyang."

The differences may seem subtle, but Anran really does appear more confident and grown-up thanks to her new look.
