Take-Two fires its AI head and his team

Take-Two Interactive, the parent company of Rockstar (GTA), has overhauled its AI department, including the dismissal of its head of artificial intelligence and an unknown number of employees.

The information comes directly from the former AI lead, who announced his departure on LinkedIn, calling it a "very disappointing" decision. His team had been working for several years on advanced technologies designed to improve game development.

"It is with genuine disappointment that I announce the end of my journey at T2, as well as that of my team. [...] I’ll take the time over the next week or so to write a more detailed post about my experience at Zynga and T2, but in the meantime, your help in finding new positions for these talented individuals would be greatly appreciated."

This change comes at a strategic moment, shortly before the highly anticipated release of GTA 6, which underscores the significance of this decision. It is also part of a broader restructuring trend at Take-Two, which already laid off approximately 5% of its workforce in 2024 to cut costs.

Additionally, Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick recently expressed public reservations about the role of AI, stating that it could not replace human creativity in a game like GTA 6, and emphasizing the importance of human development.
