Bethesda show more about Starfield's exploration and planet diversity

This autumn we will get to enjoy Bethesda Game Studios most ambitious game ever. In Starfield, players will be able to create their own characters, build ships and outposts, go on adventures with companions, take part in space battles and much more...

What's more, the Xbox exclusive will push players to explore the more than 1,000 explorable planets. In a recent interview, director Todd Howard spoke about the title's overly ambitious scope.

To bring a "realistic" feel to the experience, only 10% of Starfield worlds will be home to life forms. Planets will have to be in an habitable zone (neither too close nor too far from their star) to find living beings, with planets not suitable for life only containing resources.

While the title's main cities have been designed and made by human hand, other more minor points of interest are procedurally generated. Even so, the "deserted" worlds shouldn't have much to offer beyond various resources. The developers didn't want to add too many camps and other "human" dwellings, so as not to break the immersion.

When players land somewhere, the aim will be to motivate them to explore only the surrounding area, not the entire planet (especially if, you know, it's completely devoid of life). It's worth noting that one world can sometimes be home to several biomes.

Last but not least, Todd Howard has confirmed that certain characters will be available for romance, that there won't be any vehicles beyond the ship and that it will be possible to sell planetary data to merchants.
