Mark Cerny is an iconic figure in the video game industry. He is best known as the lead architect of several PlayStation consoles, including the PS4 and PS5. He is also currently working on the upcoming PS6.
In an interview with Digital Foundry, Cerny discussed the future of Sony’s consoles. During the interview, he announced the arrival of machine learning-based image generation on PlayStation platforms.
"To clarify some points regarding the collaboration with AMD, the new PSSR uses the same co-developed base algorithm as FSR Redstone upscaling. FSR image generation is also based on co-developed technology. I am very pleased with the progress of this work, and an equivalent image generation library should be available soon on PlayStation platforms."
For now, Mark Cerny has not specified which consoles will be affected. As a reminder, this AI image generation involves inserting additional images between those rendered by a machine’s graphics card. The goal is to improve a game’s fluidity through these artificially generated images.
