God of War Sons of Sparta becomes the lowest-rated game in the franchise

Despite being shadowdropped at the end of State of Play on February 13, God of War Sons of Sparta has ultimately got a rather mixed reception.

This 2.5D Metroidvania game developed by Mad Cat Studios currently has a Metacritic average of 69% based on 17 reviews. Player reviews are relatively similar, with a score of 6.8/10 based on 428 reviews.

God of War Sons of Sparta has been heavily criticized for its poor animations, bland combat, and mediocre AI. The story, however, is quite good, with a fairly varied bestiary and a comprehensive equipment system.

In any case, Sons of Sparta is now the lowest-rated God of War game in the franchise. Previously, this honor belonged to God of War: Ascension, released on PS3 in March 2013, with an average score of 80%.
