Sony has filed a patent for AI that will play in place of the user
, by Thibaut
Artificial intelligence could once again make a significant impact on video games. Sony filed a patent in September 2024 that was finally published by the World Intellectual Property Organization this week.
The documents in question describe AI technology that would actually play in place of the user. It could generate a kind of “ghost” of the character in order to indicate a course of action or even perform an action in its entirety.
If we take the Uncharted license as an example, “Guide Mode” would generate a second Nathan Drake who would present us with the solution to a puzzle. In “Complete Mode,” this double would be able to solve the puzzle itself. The player could then take over again to continue the game. The AI would be trained using existing videos of the game.
It is important to remember that a patent does not always materialize into a feature intended for the general public.
