Sony could use AI to censor games in real time

This is a new use of AI that is likely to attract a lot of criticism. Sony recently filed a patent for the development of a feature that would allow games to be censored in real time using artificial intelligence.

In the document, the Japanese brand describes a system that could interrupt gameplay or blur, modify, and mute specific passages. The tool could even go so far as to generate deepfakes to replace elements.

The technology would be capable of detecting scenes of violence, gore, sexual content, vulgarity, and much more. It would then intervene during gameplay according to the rules set by the guardian of the PlayStation Network account used. In the settings, an option for "custom content modifications using AI" would be available.

Thanks to this, devs would no longer need to censor their own titles in order to have them approved by Sony. All devices, services, and consoles of every generation could be affected by this.
