The Steam client switches to 64-bit and adds compatibility with Switch 2 controllers

Steam users may have noticed that an update was automatically downloaded on Friday, December 19. This new version brings changes, fixes, and additional features.

First, the PC client has switched to 64-bit on Windows 11 and Windows 10. Computers running a 32-bit Windows operating system will receive updates until January 1, 2026. Several issues have also been fixed regarding game purchases, controller configuration, and gyroscope.

In terms of new features, Switch 2 controllers connected via USB are now compatible with Windows. GameCube adapters in Wii U mode with vibration are also supported. In addition, gyroscope schemes that were previously in beta are now loaded by default.

Finally, Valve now allows users to directly report suspicious or harassing messages in group chats. When reporting, an option to block or delete the offending user is available.
