Sony wants devs to use the power saver mode for their PS6 games
, by Thibaut
Already available on PS5, the power saver mode is used to launch certain games while reducing the console's energy consumption. However, this mode lowers the performance of the games in question in order to reduce power consumption.
According to insider Moore's Law Is Dead, Sony wants studios to fully adopt this feature on PS6. Emails sent by the Japanese manufacturer to several of its partners include information on this subject.
"This week, we [game developers] received emails from Sony strongly emphasizing the power saver... as if they needed us to support it natively in the long run.
We shouldn't just lower the frame rate to meet the power saver requirements. Instead, we should try to maintain 60 FPS by lowering the resolution."
Moore's Law Is Dead believes that this requirement is being imposed by Sony in order to allow PS6 games to run on portable devices. Like the Switch, the next PlayStation is expected to include a screen that will allow users to play anywhere.
