Apple Vision Pro mixed-reality headset finally unveiled

An old urban legend finally became real this week. Apple took advantage of its Worlwide Developers Conference on Monday to present its mixed reality (VR / AR) headset to the world. Alas, this Apple Vision Pro won't be for everyone, as it will be out for a very prohibitive price tag of $3,499.

The device's visor is made of 3D glass. It shows the user's eyes, which is a good thing for staying "aware" of the real world. A new visionOS operating system has also been introduced, with access to all the usual functions and applications you'd find on an Apple device. The headset can even be connected directly to an iPhone or iPad.

As well as allowing users to view films, photos and videos, make calls and work with a degree of total immersion, the Apple Vision Pro will focus on gaming. The two ultra-high-definition, 23-megapixel screens will be ideal for playing over 100 Apple Arcade titles, with added support for controllers such as Sony's DualSense.

Apple will launch its headset in early 2024 in the United States, with other countries following later.
