Square Enix has cut over 100 jobs in the West

After discussing its new strategy for multiplatform games and its desire to prioritize quality over quantity, Square Enix had another announcement to make. Unfortunately, this reboot initiated by the Japanese publisher will have serious consequences for employees.

The VGC website reports that the company called several of its employees based in Europe and America this week. Takashi Kiryu, president of Square Enix, announced "structural reforms abroad" that will lead to a general restructuring of the organization in the West.

Simply put, this means that layoffs will take place. One person affected in Europe said that around 140 employees had been notified that their jobs were at risk of being cut. All sectors, from marketing to external studios, are affected.

Square Enix hopes this measure will save $19.6 million. The publisher issued a statement shortly thereafter.

"We are reorganizing our operations in North America and Europe in order to strengthen our development structure and implement an integrated global marketing strategy. This decision, which was extremely difficult to make, was carefully considered and analyzed by our management team with the aim of ensuring the long-term growth of the Group.

We would like to express our deep gratitude to the talented team members who are leaving the company for their outstanding contributions to Square Enix. During this transition period, we remain fully committed to treating each person with the utmost respect and providing them with unwavering support."
